Raag-Mala Toronto presents a two-part concert with Sougata Roy Chowdhury (sarod) and Mitali Bhawmik (vocal)

Sougata Roy Chowdhury is a senior exponent of the Maihar Gharana, who has performed widely in India and overseas. He studied under Ud. Dhyanesh Khan, son of the great sarod maestro Ud. Ali Akbar Khan, and after the untimely death of his guru, with Ud. Ashish Khan.  Over the past 17 years, he has been studying under Pt. Santosh Banerjee, a highly respected sitar and surbahar player.

Mitali Bhawmik trained under three vocalists, including the doyenne of Patiala Gharana Vidushi Meera Banerjee, before becoming a disciple of the late violin maestro Pt. VG Jog. Under her Guru’s guidance, Mitali has mastered the art of khayal and has been studying “lighter forms” like thumri, dadra, hori, etc with Srimati Dahlia Rahut.

Indranil Mallick will provide tabla accompaniment to both artists, and Sanatan Goswami will accompany Mitali on harmonium.
