Raag-Mala Toronto presents a Sarod recital by Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar with Pandit Subhankar Banerjee on Tabla on Saturday, June 15th at 7pm. 

Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar is one of India’s leading Sarod players, having studied under senior musicians including Ustad Bahadur Khan, and after the Ustad’s untimely demise, under Swara Samrat Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He has won numerous awards, including Banga Bhushan and Sangeet Mahasamman, the highest award for music conferred by the Government of West Bengal.

Pandit Subhankar Banerjee started learning Tabla Pt. Manik Das of the Benaras Gharana from the age of four, and then from Pt. Swapan Shiva of Farukhabad Gharana for 25 five years. In addition to being a brilliant soloist, he is much sought-after as an accompanist and has performed with stalwarts like Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Vidushi Girija Devi, and Pt. Jasraj.
