Stree Shakti: Celebrating Women in Music

Raag-Mala Toronto presents an all-female vocal recital by Vidushi Arati Ankalikar Tikekar with Srimati Shubhada Joshi–Athawale on Harmonium and Srimati Mukta Raste on Tabla on Saturday, September 7th at 7pm. 

Recognized as one of the top vocalists of her generation, Vidushi Arati Ankalikar Tikekar has performed at all prestigious conferences such as Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav (Pune), the Dover Lane Festival (Kolkata), and travelled extensively in the India, US, Canada, UK and UAE.  Aratiji will sing raags associated with female deities, as well as self-composed melodies and those composed by other female singers.

Srimati Shubhada Joshi–Athawale, who was born into a musical family - her father was Late Pt. Kamalakar Joshi, has accompanied eminent artists such as Pt. Vidyadhar Vyas, Pt.  Raghunandan Panshikar, Pt. Anand Bhate and Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar.  In addition to playing the harmonium, she is an accomplished singer, composer, and teacher.

Srimati Mukta Raste began her musical studies in vocal classical and harmonium, before switching over to the tabla, an instrument which has earned her nationwide acclaim. Consistently rated as a top performer at national tabla competitions, Mukta has earned many awards from the Indian Ministry of Culture, Joan Memorial Scholarship and many other nonprofits
