DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends\,\n\n\nWe regret to inform you that the upcoming performance of Arati Ankalikar Tikekar\, scheduled for August 15th has been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.\n\n\nTicketholders will be contacted directly.\n\n\nThank you for your understanding.\n\n\nWe hope to see you during our fall season at the Aga Khan Museum.\n\n\nThe Raag-Mala Team\n\nRaag-Mala Toronto is proud to present a vocal recital by Arati Ankalikar Tikekar on Saturday August 15th at 5:30pm at Chinmaya Mission Toronto. \n\nArati Ankalikar Tikekar is one of the leading vocalists of Indian Classical Music. She began her training with Late Pandit Vasantrao Kulkarni of the Agra/Gwalior gharanas (singing traditions)\, and subsequently received training from many great artists such as the late Gaanasarawati Kishori Amonkar (Jaipur-Atrauli)\, Late Pandit Dinkar Kaikini (Agra) and Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar (Gwalior). \nShe has taken influences from the various gharanas and created a style of singing that is suited to her unique tonal quality and vocal range.  Whether she is singing a bada khayal (which requires a gradual elaboration of a raag from a slow tempo to a rapid one towards its end)\, or performing a light-hearted thumri or singing a bhajan\, Arati’s captivating badhat (development of the composition) and the passion she imbues in her renditions are what make her a favourite among aficionados and won over newer listeners of raag sangeet (Indian classical music). \nArati has also sung film songs for Hindi\, Marathi and regional cinemas. She received the best play back singer award for Konkani film Anternaad in 2006 and for the Marathi film Samhita in 2012. She also received numerous awards such as the Maharashtra State Award as the best playback singer\, V. Shantaram Award and the Maharashtra Times Award for a Marathi Film. \nArati has performed at several prestigious conferences in India\, such as the Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav (Pune)\, Tansen Sangeet Samaroh (Gwalior) and Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkota) and also performed extensively in Canada and many other countries\, where she made tireless efforts in spreading awareness of raag sangeet. \nShe last performed on the Aga Khan Museum stage in 2019\, and we are delighted to have this artist\, at the height of her music career\, present a full concert of raag sangeet. \nArati ji will be accompanied by local artists Samidha Joglekar & Anuja Panditrao (vocal accompaniment)\, Rigved Deshpande (tabla) and Sushant Anantharam (harmonium) \nTickets: \nMembers (*including Patrons): $35\nNon-Members: $40 \nPlease send an etransfer to raagmalatorontopayments@gmail.com \nBenefactors receive complimentary tickets \n*This concert is not part of our regular concert season

He has received numerous fellowships and awards for his mastery of the Hindustani khayal vocal style; his concerts in India\, Europe and North America have been widely acclaimed. \nWarren continues to be in the Music-in-Education faculty at New England Conservatory of Music. His previous lecture/demonstrations for Raag-Mala Toronto\, and at the Aga Khan Museum\, were much-admired for his ability to talk about raag music\, a complex art form\, in simple everyday language free from jargon\, and in an immensely entertaining manner. \nWarren’s vocal recital will be followed by a moderated discussion on the course “Entering the World of Raga”\, including Q&A from the audience. \nHardeep Chana \nBeing immersed and raised in a musical atmosphere\, Hardeep began learning from within his family at first. He sought guidance for accompaniment from Professor Ranjit Singh learning Taus or Mayoori Veena. Today\, Hardeep continues his studies as a Harmonium accompanist under the acclaimed harmonium accompanist Shri Tanmay Deochake of Pune. \nHardeep has had the fortune of accompanying many great artists including Pandit Anindo Chatterjee\, Pandit Yogesh Samsi\, Smt. Kaushiki Chakraborty\, and many more. \nKiran Morarji \nKiran is a distinguished tabla artist of the Punjab gharana\, recognized as one of the most active and sought-after performers. He began his study of tabla at the age of eight and has dedicated his life to the art form ever since. For over two and a half decades\, he has been a disciple of the legendary Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain\, whose guidance has profoundly shaped his musical voice and artistic philosophy. He continues training with Pandit Yogesh Samsi\, senior disciple of Ustad Allarakha\, further deepening his grounding in the Punjab tradition. \nHe has performed extensively across Canada\, the US\, and around the world\, accompanying some of the world’s most respected instrumentalists\, vocalists\, and Kathak dancers\, including appearances alongside his Gurus.
