Sensational Strings: Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan

October 16 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm UTC+0

Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan
Sensational Strings
Padma Shri Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan represents the seventh generation of the Etawah Gharana, a musical tradition or “family” committed to this most famous of Indian instruments – sitar. Instructed by his father and guru, Ustad Aziz Khan, he has also been influenced by sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan and vocalists Ustad Amir Khan and Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. He is a master of both the melodies of Raag and the rhythms of India – north, and south.
Being first trained, from age 3, in the classical vocal music that forms the foundation of the “gayaki ang”, it would be several years before he would be allowed to pick up a sitar. The young Shahid Parvez Khan, recognized as a child prodigy, started performing in public by the time he was only eight years of age.
He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Government of India’s ‘Padma Shri’ and the ‘Sangeet Natak Academy Award.’ Widely recognized as one of the greatest sitar players in the world, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan has performed in all major musical festivals in India and abroad. A generous teacher, Ustadji, founded the SPK Academy of Music to pass on traditions and knowledge.

Ustad ji will present a recital of afternoon raags, and will be accompanied by Nitin Mitta on tabla.
