Abhisek Lahiri & Omkar Dadarkar LIVE at Aga Khan Museum

Raag-Mala Toronto, in partnership with the Aga Khan Museum, is proud to present a two part concert with Abhisek Lahiri & Omkar Dadarkar on Sunday April 21st at 4pm.

Abhisek Lahiri
Abhisek began learning from his father, Pt. Alok Lahiri, at a very young age. He started performing publicly at the age of 10, though he got his first break at the national level when he was invited by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia to play at his ‘Saath Saath Festival’ where he was named “The Wonder Kid”. Today, he has created his own unique style of playing and has achieved many accolades across the globe.

He has toured extensively in India and abroad and has represented India at World Music Festivals in Morrocco and Cyprus.

Abhisek will be accompanied by Indranil Mallick (Tabla)

Indranil Mallick
Born into a musical family, Indranil began to learn tabla when he was only five, from his uncle, Sri Montu Mallick. Later he was trained by Prof. Dhabol Bandyapadhaya and Sri Uttam Chakraborty, senior disciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, who is now his guru.  Indranil holds a “Sangeet Visharad”, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music focused on Tabla, from the University of Chandigarh.

Among his many awards and distinctions in tabla performance, he stood first in the Yuva Utsav organized by the state Government of West Bengal.  Keeping a rigorous performance schedule, Indranil continues to perform with renowned artists in various music conferences in India and abroad.

Omkar Dadarkar
Omkar hails from a family of ‘Marathi Natyasangeet’ exponents, he received his initial guidance from his aunt, legendary vocalist Padmashree Manik Verma, and thereafter from Ram Deshpande. After that he took training from Pt. Yashwantbua Joshi of Gwalior Gharana in the Guru-shishya Parampara tradition. After joining I.T.C. Sangeet Research Academy in 1999 as a scholar, he has undergone rigorous training under the tutelage of guru Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar. He is now on the faculty of ITC SRA.

Omkar has fast gained recognition as a regular concert performer all over India and abroad. His numerous awards include the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for 2010 conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi to talented artistes below the age of 35.

Omkar will be accompanied by Sri Sanjay Deshpande (Tabla) and Siddesh Bicholkar (Harmonium)

Sanjay Deshpande
Sanjay Deshpande started learning tabla under Late Pt. Sabade; later he took taleem from Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar of Delhi-Farookabad Gharana and received guidance from the maestro Ud. Alla Rakha Khan. Sanjay continues his studies under Pt. Yogesh Samsi and Pt. Vivek Joshi. He is a recipient of the coveted “Ahmedjaan Thirakwa Scholarship” for solo performance, and has accompanied senior artists such as Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Vidushi. Malini Rajurkar, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini, and Vidushi Ashwini Bhide.

Siddhesh Bicholkar
Siddhesh has been learning music since childhood and has been privileged to receive guidance from Shri Sharad Mathkar and Pt. Tulsidas Borkar, renowned Harmonium exponent and Guru. He has been the recipient of many eminent music scholarships including from the Government of India.
